Parashat Bechukotai is the 33rd weekly Torah portion in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading.

Bechukotai (“In My Laws”) is the final Torah portion in the Book of Leviticus. It begins describing blessings that follow obedience to God's laws and curses that come with desecration of them. It ends with laws of vows and consecration of people and property. [1]

Hebrew school is on summer break at Temple Sholom of Ontario. We will continue in the fall hold classes virtually on Sundays starting at 10:00am PT. There will be two sessions, 40 minutes each, with a 10 minute break in between.

We will have age-appropriate sessions for kids and parents and adults.

**This is a work-in-progress based on the status of the pandemic and as currently planned. We will alter the format and schedule based on updated information.

We have added a special Hebrew reading crash course for those students not adept in reading Hebrew. It will be from 9:20am to 9:50 am before the regular sessions.

The first session will focus on Hebrew reading and prayers. We will read from the week's Torah portion using a Chumash and an online site. Besides the main prayers used in our services, we will also learn Torah and Haftarah blessings.

The second session will be a general learning session of that weekly sedrah/portion. We will also discuss notable Jewish personalities, from celebrities to prophets and kings. There will also be special topics such as gossip and evolution.

Once you finish the course requirements and secure a sponsoring rabbi, you are eligible to become officially part of the Jewish People.

If you're already Jewish: Whether you were born Jewish but never quite learned what it’s all about, you’re back after a long hiatus, or you’re just looking for a deeper understanding of your heritage, most of us could use a bit of a refresher. Jews from all walks of life enroll in the program: from people who had a Jewish day school education to those whose strongest connection was the annual box of matza on the kitchen counter.

Jerusalem Day 🇮🇱

Yom Yerushalayim for Hebrew Year 5782 begins at sundown on Saturday, 28 May 2022 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, 29 May 2022.

Jerusalem Day (Hebrew: יום ירושלים, Yom Yerushalayim) is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in June 1967. The Chief Rabbinate of Israel declared Jerusalem Day a minor religious holiday to thank G-d for victory in the Six-Day War and for answering the 2,000-year-old prayer of "Next Year in Jerusalem".



Memorial Day


Memorial Day for the year 2022 is celebrated/observed on Monday, May 30th.


Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed every year on the last Monday in May. It honors those who died serving in the United States military. In the United States, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the start of the summer season and with Labor Day weekend ending the summer. Most government and businesses offices will be closed on this Day. Armed Forces Day honors those who currently serve in the military and Veterans Day honors men and women who have previously served in the United States Military.




Shavuot 2022 / שָׁבוּעוֹת 5782

Festival of Weeks ⛰️🌸

Shavuot for Hebrew Year 5782 begins in the Diaspora at sundown on Saturday, 4 June 2022 and ends at nightfall on Monday, 6 June 2022.

The festival of Shavuot (or Shavuos, in Ashkenazi usage; Shabhuʿoth in Classical and Mizrahi Hebrew Hebrew: שבועות, lit. "Weeks") is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (late May or early June). Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day G-d gave the Torah to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount Sinai, although the association between the giving of the Torah (Matan Torah) and Shavuot is not explicit in the Biblical text. The holiday is one of the Shalosh Regalim, the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals. It marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer.
